Following cutbacks in the utility sector and wider global industrial economy, many commercial organisations have trended towards instrumentation hire rather than outright purchase, particularly for projects of finite duration. Short-term investigative studies rarely justify significant capital spending commitment. Instrumentation hire is an obvious solution with other added benefits. One distinct advantage for the purchaser is that the supplier is responsible for the maintenance and calibration of hired equipment.
The extensive range of equipment available to hire from Detectronic includes a selection of datalogging flow monitors and raingauges. These include conventional BM3510-type, intrinsically safe flow monitors and tipping-bucket raingauges, each with built-in datalogging facilities, designed for local downloading. The increasingly popular ATEX and IECEx-certified MSFM (Multi-Sensor Flow-Monitoring) systems offer datalogging of all measured parameters with both local download and remote delivery of recorded data via international GSM/GPRS networks. This can be delivered each morning direct to an engineer or consultant.
Detectronic offers hire periods as short as one week, although a more typical timescale for a sewerage network flow monitoring project would be approximately eight weeks. It makes good commercial sense to ensure hired equipment can be moved on and off-site promptly during a monitoring period’s duration. Without due consideration of delivery logistics, costs can mount even before a project’s commencement. Further delays can arise from client unfamiliarity with equipment following delivery.
Detectronic has a proven track record of efficiently managing delivery of flow monitoring systems for a wide range of domestic and international projects. We also ensure for overseas shipments that all paperwork is correct and customs clearance procedures are followed. Our dedicated multi-disciplinary technical support team is available to offer reassurance and expert advice to assist with any initial installation and setup enquiries.
When undertaking a storm water flow survey in Kuwait, Australian engineering company, SMEC turned to Detectronic for assistance. Detectronic supplied all the flow monitors, organised all international freight and dealt with customs clearance. One-to-one training was given to the survey team prior to deployment of the flow monitors and continual technical support was provided remotely.
SMEC’s Charlie Reed commented: ‘Through both winter surveys Detectronic provided technical back up as required. Most of this communication was by e-mail and via Skype or telephone. We found that Dave Walker and the other members of the team at Detectronic understood our situation, enabling most issues to be resolved speedily, a testament to their experience and professionalism.’
