ATEX MSFM Lite Ultrasonic Level Monitor

Detectronic‘s MSFM Lite Ultrasonic Level Monitor is specifically designed to measure CSO Combine Storm Overflow, but can also be used for remote monitoring of tank levels located in potentially explosive atmospheres certified to ATEX Zone 0.

It uses power saving technology developed by Detectronic to provide up to three years of battery life – significantly longer and more cost-effective than traditional, mains-powered ultrasonic sensors and GSM/GPRS modems.

The MSFM Lite’s two main components; the ultrasonic sensor and GSM/GPRS data logger are connected by a 10metre cable. This allows the sensor to be positioned directly above the material’s surface, with the data logger located just under the chamber cover or other suitable location.

How it Works

The sensor houses a temperature sensing element and an ultrasonic transducer which emits a series of ultrasonic pulses. Each of these is reflected as an echo from the material and sensed by the transducer, then processed and filtered to define true echoes and false ones. The time for the pulse to travel to the material and back is temperature compensated and then converted to a distance value.

The data is read and recorded by the MSFM Lite at predetermined intervals set by the user. Periodically, such as every day or on an ‘alarm’ event, the recorded values are transmitted by GPRS to a host computer or the internet.
