Working in partnership with UK, European and International water companies helping to reduce flooding, prevent pollution and improve rivers and bathing water, Detectronic specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of ultrasonic wastewater flow and level monitoring equipment for the water industry.
Since the mid-1970s, members of Detectronic’s design team have been involved in the development of sewer monitoring products and services to ensure clients get the most out of their network monitoring programmes. Founders Gerry Burby, Steve Woods and Dave Walker have over 80 years’ combined industry experience meeting the flow measurement requirements of the international water industry, flow survey companies and consulting engineers.

Providing cost effective and technologically advanced flow measurement systems, Detectronic is focused on measuring, recording, reporting and reacting to depths and flow rates in waste water channels and pipes. These include sewers, storm drains and combined sewer overflows as well as highways and land drainage channels.
Detectronic provides clients with the most robust measurement and data-delivery, supported by its dedicated operations and data centre which delivers continuous data-screening and analysis. Comparing near real-time data with historical flow and level data, the skilled analysts monitor what is currently happening in sewers and drainage networks and identify anomalies – responding directly to Clients with intervention reports and recommendations. The Operations Centre manages Detectronic’s highly trained site crews who are on hand, 24 hours a day, to install and maintain sensors and monitoring systems.
Installation of Detectronic monitoring products and use of Detectronic analysis and reporting systems enables water companies, stakeholders and operations teams to work more efficiently, improve compliance, reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction.
Collaborations and Research
Detectronic is a founder-member of the Centre for Industrial Ultrasonics (CIU) based at Warwick University. We are working with Salford University to jointly develop Statistical Analysis Algorithms as part of our development of automated data-processing tools. We are also working with Dr Andrew Kirby (Durham University) on two optical measurement projects for wastewater applications.
